A room, a place of one’s own, somewhere to make room for imagination and creativity..

Carmela was born in Southern Italy (Puglia) but has lived in Bologna for a long time now and has developed consistent experience working in many professional fields. After graduating from the fashion and costume design academy “Koefia”in Rome, she worked at Trussardi and in various fashion atéliers based in Ferrara and Bologna, which paved her path towards a more independent and free professional vision.

In 2006 a chance to work for the theatre comes along and she designs the costumes for lots of important plays staged in Bologna (Beggar’s Opera, Pulcinella, Arlecchino), Lecce (Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Pagliacci), Bergamo (La Traviata), Genova (Cavalleria Rusticana), Nishinomiya – Japan (La Traviata) and Aachen (Luisa Miller); thanks to this collaboration, she learns about the world of craft production. That was an exciting and fulfilling job, rich in historical reconstruction. The creation of historical costumes and objects, helps her realize how detailed and meticulous manual work is.

Between 2008 and 2016, while still working in the theatre and designing fashion collections, she teaches at “Libera Università delle Arti” of Bologna, where she organizes workshop about theatrical  costume and contemporary jewellery.

Her passion for craft work and the wish to produce using her hands, lead her to the creation of her own brand. In 2013 she creates the first collection of jewels with Camera Creativa brand, made of recycled materials which become unique fashion items and complete the outfit.

Carmela’s work is characterized by the constant research of alternative materials. Her creations have a very peculiar trait that makes them unique and they are the result of a combination of shapes and textures while taking care of the environment.

This new path has given her a chance to take part to important events such as Vogue Fashion Night Milano, Floracult, Bologna Design week, and trade fairs like Homi, White, Showcase.

Carmela’s creations have been presented in various exhibitions (Scatenata, Naturalia, Gioielli in fermento, Ridefinire il gioiello) and galleries in Italy (Galleria Rossini, Spazio E)  and abroad (Barcelona, Locarno, Collingwood |Australia). The collections are sold in selected boutiques and online on Instagram and Facebook.
